The president of the Port Authority, Carlos Rubio, highlighted that “this work instrument that we present today is in line not only with the recovery of activity, but also with the improvement of positioning. Although Malaga was an important destination before the pandemic, today it must become a benchmark in southern Europe. For this, we are working from the institutions and the terminals, together as we have been doing and now even more to emerge stronger from the current situation ”.
The Councilor for Tourism, Promotion of the City and Investment Capture, Rosa Sánchez, remark the Malaga City Council, since the beginning of the pandemic, “our effort has been focused on reinforcing the image and positioning as a safe destination, to place Malaga in the first place of choice”, emphasized Sánchez, who recalled that the Malaga City Council, in the hands of industry associations and groups Tourism, commerce and culture, is pioneering the development of a campaign for the early detection of Covid-19 with rapid antigen tests, which aims to generate trust in customers and visitors and contribute decisively to the economic reactivation of Malaga.
In addition, the managing director of Tourism and Planning Costa del Sol, Antonio Díaz valued that “projects like the one we present today contribute to continue positioning our destination every day of the year, with the Costa del Sol being one of the most important cruise destinations in the world. This segment represents an economic impact of 41.6 million euros on the Costa del Sol under normal circumstances. We are aware that recovery is complex, but we know how hard cruise lines, airlines, tour operators and ports are working to guarantee the safety and well-being of all passengers ”.
The territorial delegate for Tourism, Regeneration, Justice and Local Administration in Malaga, Nuria Rodríguez, highlighted "the importance of cruise tourism for the Andalusia's tourist activity as a whole, as it is a segment that annually attracted about a million travelers to the community ”, also considering that this initiative“ is an example of a joint effort, of work in the same direction by of all administrations to position Malaga and Andalusia as a safe destination and attract quality tourism ”

A more sustainable promotional material
The manager of Málagaport, Pilar Fernández-Fígares, presented the new promotional material, highlighting that “Malaga is a national benchmark, not only in the cruise activity, but also in the harmony generated between the port and the destination to promote the sector. This is how the cruise lines themselves transmit it to us, with which we continue to maintain close contact to inform them of the news, both in the port area and in the offer of the capital and the province ”.
The document includes practical and complete information on the port and the destination, much more, visual, manageable and, above all, sustainable since, through a triptych containing two QR codes, all resources are accessed virtually.
The first QR leads to the document, which should be highlighted:
- the characteristics and services of the port facilities, which operate based on the principles of safety, quality and sustainability.
- the offer of the destination, both in the capital and in the province, under the heading: What to see and do?. This section contains the main tourist excursions that the cruise passenger can choose, adapted to this type of tourism.
- The anti-covid measures and protocols, in order to report on the work carried out during these months, which has positioned us as a safe place to visit, since this is the main question posed to cruise lines today.
- Malaga's connections with the rest of the provinces, such as the gateway to Andalusia, documenting the possibilities and times of transfer.
The second QR code leads to a very illustrative video that, through various characters, invites us to visit the most emblematic places of the capital and the province. In addition, this material works very well for promotion on social networks and other digital fields.
Therefore, this material becomes a single working document that the institutions together or each one in their fields can use to promote cruise tourism in Malaga and as a gateway to Andalusia.
